Hey guys, how’s it going? Recently I went to watch Winter’s Tale, which turned out to be a very good movie in my opinion. A little bit of magic, angels and demons, all that stuff that got the part of my mind where unicorns and dragons live all frenzied. I will include a link to the trailer, for you unicorn and dragon people. But now on to the review.
First and foremost, if you are extremely atheistic and refuse the existence of God, the Devil, angels, demons, and things like that, you might want to rethink this movie. So here’s the main plot(no spoilers!):
Thief Peter Lake(Colin Farrell) in the year 1895 runs into some trouble with a former employer of his, Pearly Soames(Russell Crowe). Finding a horse that can fly, he tries to flee the city, only to have the horse lead him to the house of Beverly Penn(Jessica Brown Findlay). He falls in the cliche love-at-first-sight, and leaves after a cup of tea offered to him by Penn, and learning about her disease, tuberculosis. What will happen to the two lovebirds? Go see the movie yourself and stop relying on me!
Anyway, I loved the movie, loved the characters, and loved that I got to go see it. Now for the things no one likes: the critiques.
I did love this movie, but there were some things wrong with it. First, Will Smith as the Devil. Seriously guys? You are going to put an actor who’s only serious movie is I am Legend to play Satan? There were so many better choices: bring back some “classics”, like Peter Fonda, Robert de Niro, anyone but Will Smith. Even with this misfortune, though, he played a good Satan with a serious demeanor. I also felt like this story could’ve gone a completely different way. Here’s where the spoilers come in, so if you are one of those people who need to watch it yourself, go watch the movie. But for those who have seen it, I think that the story of Peter Lake and Beverly Penn was expounded upon too much to play such a trivial part in the movie. They either should’ve made the movie about Beverly and Peter, or not put so much emphasis on their relationship. Anyone else with me? Let me know what you want me to review next, and I’ll see you guys later.
